In Episode #9 - Swing Legends,” Swing Central moved into new territory by profiling some of the
people who made the ongoing music and dance revival possible.
This
episode is an incomplete version of a longer documentary we are calling
“Swing
Legends.”
So far, the documentary profiles Frankie Manning and Dawn
Hampton, two African-American dancers. Frankie, who is 91, and
Dawn, who is 76, teach, perform and share stories about the swing era
with younger generations. Both find that dancing late in their lives,
which requires constant travel, helps keep them young. Swing Legends
has been screened at the Warehouse Theater through the Docs in Progress program
as well as at Artomatic, an art show in the Washington
D.C. area. |
