About Swing Central
Swing Central celebrates and documents the revival of swing dancing and music.
It is produced through the facilities of Arlington Independent Media, a local access station just outside Washington, D.C.
The revival in the Washington, D.C. / Baltimore region began about two decades ago. Thousands of people in our area dance to music from the ‘30s, 40s and ‘50s’s on a regular basis to live bands.
Similar scenes have emerged in Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago and elsewhere in the U.S., as well as in many foreign countries.
Swing Central aims to spread awareness of the renewed popularity of swing, a true American art form, through television and film. Our target audience is families. Swing music and dance appeals to everyone from the senior citizens who lived through its heyday to young children who enjoy the genre’s energy and excitement.
